What is this rectangular hole for?
It looks as though an oe rubber grommet may have been there although I've never seen one on other bikes.
This fairing piece is from an RT, however my RS has the same hole.

That's quit a logical answer Ross. 'Cept I've never seen the rubber bit. Have you?
I'm trying to think what is above that hole.......the steering damper? I'll have to go and have a look.
I know I've never poked anything in
that hole.

OMG! Repressed memory syndrome.
I have seen that rubber before! It's all coming back to me.
I think.

You're right Hools, It would appear that the only purpose of the hole is to remove the little clip that holds the front steering damper ball joint in place.
I'm gonna get one of those rubber grommets and plug that hole.
It's mighty windy on the bike without it.

Glue it in with 3M weatherstrip adhesive. (I know)
I've spent most of my money on women, motorcycles, and beer.
The rest of it I just wasted.
