so this morning I was reading the Airhead monthly as i crossed on the morning ferry to San Francisco. They have numerous entertaining blurbs of upcoming events to areas hundreds or thousand miles away. I am rolling around my head a 2200 mile ride over a 5 day period from the Bay Area to the western corner of Montana in late September. it would be an epic ride through the last weeks of summer over mountains, fields and deserts. this summer (and year) has been packed with busy activities, family commitments and the usual job demands which has left little in the way of riding. without another rider to tag along... I might be tempted to just stay around here, sail an overnight and waste another riding year.
How do you rise above to organize your time, mind and ready the bike to strike out on an adventure without having other pressures of life get in the way?

Just knowing the rides that you didn't take will never be remembered.

Ok I have decided to ride to Kelispell MT. Got the ok with the wife, will do a level two style tune up, and change over from city bashed BMW bags to pelicans cases. got a tentative from a friend who will ride his r1100s.
anyone want to join me for some, part or all of the ride. 1,110 miles from the bay area passed Klamath Falls to Coeur D'Alene.

Tell Signe "Hi," she's probably the only one there I know. I can't get away from work for more than a few days at a time, a fact which annoys me more every year. 7 years 1 month before I can retire.

Too bad. Perhaps you can find a two days between now and then.
Only met a few of the folks at the national rally at Airhead central in 2010. Was occupied with a repair which cut into my socialization. Hoping good will and love of airheads will pave the way so i can wash my face, warm a meal and roll out a flat space to lay my tent a night before heading home indirectly.

What path are you taking? I have made the trip from Tahoe to Bozeman and back at least 20 times, and we pull it in one day through Elko to Twin Falls to Pocatello to Idaho Falls to West Yellowstone to Belgrade to Bozeman, but that's in a cage going fishing, so we just want to get there as quickly as possible. That path is about 14 hours with a short stop for lunch: 860 miles. Continuing to Kalispell from Idaho Falls makes for an 1100 mile total trip (one-way, of course).

An interesting route might be between Mousulia - Twin Falls passing by craters of the moon monument. It is 505 miles - so making a good day of riding.
what do you think about the road between Elko and Twin Falls?

The Craters of the Moon monument is totally cool, but it's not that great a view from the main road. You really need to make a stop and walk into the place - it's amazing. You only need to burn 1/2 - 1 hour, but you definitely should plan on stopping.
Elko to Jackpot is empty, dry, and almost all straight. Very boring and not at all attractive. Jackpot to Twin Falls is nicer but still not very exciting.

Crikey Ted, a promotional video.
Each to their own of course, but I reckon that in the time it took to create that vid I could be a couple of hundred kilometres away, flipping a coin at a mystery intersection to decide which way to go next. That's just my preferred mode of motorcycle travel. I'm sure you'll have fun too.
