Screen for petcock

When I got a my replacement petcock I was doing some checking and saw that the screen for the pick up tube was NLA by BMW.
Well I had some screens that I bought for another project that I never used, the snout fit perfectly in the pick up tube of the petcock, thought I would share.

Yeah, they are made for Models A Fords, very well made in brass.

Well guys sometimes the best ideas just go astray. In order to use the mentioned screen it required placing a short coupling pipe between the existing tube and screen. I guess my couple wasn't as gas resistant as I thought since when I removed the petcock to fix a leak all that "stuff fell into the tank....OOPS!!!!! So after dumping all the gas and fishing out the parts I put it back together without the screen.
Strange occurance though, my leak was from the area where the petcock screwed into the tank, the leaking gas made the new lines swelled up and the cloth covering shrunk, made a floppy loose fitting mess. Had to chuck them out. Thought these "new" lines would be resistant more than that to gas.

The top screen is the only screen on the 90 degree petcocks, while the straight Karcomas have an additional screen inside the output.

If it ever comes to this, I think aircooled VWs have a similar screen in the tank and they are still available through the aftermarket. Could be adapted? I'd go with Huckys.

Huckys looks like a good source, when I was looking at a dealer they were showing the screen as not available. Seems like some parts are double sourced as sometimes you can find a vendor that still has them. Looking over the link, found quite a few items I could use.
Right now I have two 90 degree petcocks on there, but I am not happy with the routing created on the right side, may have to spring for a straight one on that side. Should have bought the one that Duane had on e-bay.

thanks,

Do old VeeDubs have a petcock with reserve?

The early Bus had a reserve lever, but they kept the strainer for awhile after it was discontinued. Coincidentally, I just sold one on eBay: Image
