... is a better rear seat hinge for my /5. This ones too mangled (bad weld) and scratches the rear subframe paint:

They are supposedly the same for all 247 Airheads from 1969-1984.

Maybe you have one lying around that you are willing to part with ... I'll pay shippping + ???

Thanks, Stephen

Don't even waste your time with trying to fix it. The original seat system needed a lot of attention to stay together. Most people treated it as something that should work forever, but it was a really poor design.

I suggest the mod to a lift off seat. Just dump the hinges. Most never look back after this mod.

Still, it's good to look back before making lane changes. :)

Do the /6 "Seat Mod".
It may be on Duane's site or the IBMWR tech site.
If you use side cases, it lets you open the seat without taking the right side case off.

If it wasn't for the PO I wouldn't even need to replace the rear hinge.

I like the hinges ... honest! Never had a problem with them.

Motobins have them in your choice of stainless or normal steel. Just look at all those parts!
Look @ seats, and seat parts.

The only legitimate use of the oem seat hinges is for posing in front of the Barber Museum with your authentic bike. :o

There, I've said it. Let that be an end to it, and do the lift off seat thing.
