Hello from South Africa

My name is Rick, I have been lurking here for a while and feel it is time I introduced myself.
I recently found an old 1977 R100S which I plan to rebuild.
Here is a link where the story has been documented.

Boxerworks is one of a few forums I have bookmarked as a source of information and I am finding it to be one of the best, it gets a visit every evening!
Thanks for the help and I hope that I will be able to contribute here in return.
I am really enjoying getting to know my old Airhead.

Welcome to the Boxerworks forum, Rick.
That's quite a nice project you have going there.

Welcome to the nut house Rick
Lurking is a very good way to prepare yourself for
all of us some of us me and a couple of others.
That looks like a good project bike, it will be good to follow your progress.
I like the gearbox output shaft flange puller shown in the link. I less like the inside of your tranny
but you'll sort it out.
I'll go back to your link and read more.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for posting the link to your build,
hmmmm more than a restoration, looks like a resurrection!
I look forward to seeing how the project goes.
cheers
Mal

Welcome welcome.
Since you've been lurking for a while, presumably you've seen what goes on here and will not be too frightened when it happens to
you.
Looks like quite a big project, what with the water that made its way into the engine case. Good luck and we'll all try to be helpful with your project . . . occasionally . . . you know, when we're not just screwing off.

Hi Rick, welcome. Congratulations on getting the nerve to participate!
I recently went to the
DARK SIDE with a new Honda CBR250R. It is a great bike, but the (one & only) forum for them leaves a lot to be desired. It is fine for asking technical questions, but it is a whole nuther breed over there.
I'm even thinking of putting the R65 back together (with a non-R65 engine) just to get back in the game.

No, I didn't, Major.
By the way, its
Tofu and the past tense of eat is "ate." Just like the calipers. You missed a comma as well.
AND...since a source for keys has been provided, this is legal thread degradation.

Thank you all for the welcomes.
My old BMW is running beautifully and in daily use.
There are a couple of niggles, I have an annoying engine oil drip from the shelf, probably the rear main seal or oil pump O-ring.
My gas mileage sucks. About 12-13 kms per litre or 30 mpg. I have a new set of slide needles and needle jets on order. My old needles are visibly pitted from corrosion.
I could not get used to the narrow stock handle bars so fitted set of Rentals, "Street fighter" flavour
the handel bar switch looms to the headlight were JUST long enough.
I am leaning towards a rebuild like Airbear's recent work on Brunhilde, I would like more utility and less bling so may even make a top box for it
