Factory giving up on /5 parts

Hi all...I went to my local Fresno Ca BMW dealer yesterday for a local club ride and shine and tried to buy a part for my R60/5, no joy.
Parts guy said that the factory doesn't sell the old bike parts anymore, only /6 and up.
I got home and checked out the SF dealers online fiche and nothing for the /5's!
When did this happen? Say it ain't so.
Or maybe I am crazy as I do own a BMW.

I don't know everything that's currently available from the factory, but I do know you can still get /2 parts, so that guy is full of crap.

Edit: Just looked on Max BMW, and they show about 1 out of every 100 parts for /5's as NA. I think the Fresno store is telling you what THEIR policy just became, and blaming it on the factory.

Major
I checked the dealer microfiche and there doesn't seem to be any pointers for the /5 series.

I think my local dealer is just using a reduced stock non older bike fiche, to keep their inventory lower. Just a guess.
thanks for the link to max bmw.

MAX BMW seem to have /5s listed here: http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/PartsFiche.aspx

Mark Huggett is Switzerland has worked closely with BMW to create Mobile Traditions so that classic bike parts will not become oboslete. http://www.bmwbike.com/index.php?l=en

Hello !
As you may not know, BMW has set up a factory shop for classical cars and bikes parts.
You can order directly from the BMW factory in Germany.
So going there and checking for your parts will show you if the parts you need are really available at the factory. Isn't that neat ?

I just checked and you can get a barrel, a piston, and rings in every diameter. Not cheap but available.

That great, but the group is moving and is closed unitl the spring 2013
Closure of the BMW Group Archives.
The BMW Group Archive is due to a move expected to close until spring 2013. During this time, unfortunately, can not requests and orders are processed. Once the move is complete in the new premises, our service offer will be at a normal level and quality. We apologize for the hitherto unfortunately necessary restrictions and thank you for your understanding.

I like to use A&S Cycles in Roseville Ca for my factory items. Here is a link to their 60/5 fiche page.

The ARCHIVES are moving. Not the SHOP. Click on the SHOP label on the upper band.
Then select, either car or motorcycle parts... on the right of the frame.
Very confusing, at first....
