A while back I read (here I think) about a "radial" tire being developed by Continental to fit Airheads. Any further news on this ?

Not a radial, but a modern airhead sized tire.

ContiGO! tires provide horrible service life. Ride and handle OK, but I wore one a rear out in 5K miles. I went back to Michelin.

I get 5k miles from Michellin rears... if I'm lucky.

Yes, anyone calling 5k miles "horrible service life" just doesn't like sport compounds. I'm perfectly happy to trade that level of mileage if the performance is worth it. ME 109 makes no mention of whether or not he actually liked the tires performance.

Hmmm well, longevity is performance too.
As for dependability when scraping around corners, I very much liked Michelin mac50's
I found them the best rear of all that I've tried. Unfortunately they're nla.
I'm still assessing the new pilot active.

I guess when a 45 HP R80/7 can wear out a rear tire in 5K miles and a 120 HP Ducati multistrada on the same 4500 mile trip uses maybe 1/2 of its tread life (Pirelli Angels), I say 5K miles is poor service life. I don't think it's just the compound. The ContiGO! isn't marketed as a sport tire or a "sport compound." Continental calls it an "All Around" tire:

These tires just don't do it for me. Your mileage may vary (pun intended).
