monoshock final drive brake cam tube

Bike is an '88 R100RT that recently developed a final drive leak (drip). It doesn't leak when it's sitting, only when being driven around, and for a short time after parking. A couple days before the leak started I had done some cleanup/monkeying/adjusting to the brake rod and shoes. So i'm thinking (hoping) that the leak is from the brake cam pivot shaft that goes thru the final drive. (I haven't had the chance to get in there yet to check).

My question, for this year bike, is the brake actuating cam shaft 'open' to the final drive oil bath within the gear case? Or does it have a solid tube housing running thru the gear case within which the brake cam rod runs, like the twin shock bikes have? Any info appreciated, thanks.

Can't remember exactly, it was 2 years ago (and I'm old).
I remember grease, o-rings, a felt washer, and a steel tube about 3" or so.
I think it is isolated from the gear oil.

Are you experiencing any gear lube migrating into the brake drum? Best way to confirm if full-tube or not would be to pull the rear wheel and take a look. Your O-rings may need refreshing.
