Mystery Plug

I'm just curious. Does anyone know what the function of this plug is, on the bottom of a /5 transmission? It is at 2:00 in this photo and has a slot for a screwdriver: Image

Isn't that where the neutral switch belongs?

No, it's a /5 transmission. Neutral switch is on the back of 4 speeds...

Thanks for proving that my memory is gone. I used to know.

I sort of think that it is a limiter on some aspect of shifting. I don't mind being wrong. I think that someone will peer inside one and tell us what it does.

Sorry. I was reading quickly and read it as a 5-speed.

Well, I found this is a special "screw" #8, associated with the shift mechanism, most likely just a stop. Notice the other one coming from the top:Image

 Yeah, it stops the transmission from shifting into 5th.
They took it out on the 5 speeds.
Mine hasn't got one.

I think that this is the magic plug, even you play with it you have to open up the gearbox to get everything working again.
