Thanks for bringing that one up again Tim, I read it a few years ago but lost the bookmark .

A brilliant ride !

Actually it's so much more than a brilliant ride, it's a window on another place that most of us haven't he faintest idea of .

Indeed, a very fascinating story. That beach run sounds a bit more exciting than I would want. In the next post he explains that it wouldn't have been so dangerous if they had planned things a bit better, apparently they didn't pick the right time tide-wise to attempt the "doodsakker".
We also do a post mortem on the ride and hindsight shows us where we went wrong. The reason the riding was so much easier in the afternoon, is that we started riding on the ebb. In other words it was not yet low tide, this gives us a better quality of sand to ride and gives us extra time. It took us three hours to do the run against the dune. We started just after low tide and we were racing the incoming tide, which just squeezed the breath out of us.

There are many fine photos, I especially like this one. Talk about "in the middle of nowhere"!

This trip report sure makes a run to Ken's in May sound tame. It makes every ride I've ever done sound very tame in fact.

Yep, and if the beach run didn't get them, swimming in crocodile infested waters might have... not to mention the land mines. Yikes!

Steve, as you say very good photography, especially for the conditions, but also very readable writing .
