Riding around in Tasmania

I've just spent a week riding around Tassie and my advice is: sell the house, sell the car, sell the kids if you have to and get down there. It was better than I expected and I had been told it was very, very good. Excellent roads, not much traffic, great scenery, beaut local beers and surprisingly good coffee everywhere we went. There was snow on the way to Lake Pedder (see photo) and in the central highlands but generally the weather good. Rush on down.

Lucky man Ray.
How was the weather? This time of year it can be anything. It's a beautiful spot, and so compact.
I was last there 21 years ago. November 89. 7 days of 21C every day! I'm afraid I used all the weather gods good stuff then.

I thought we'd done all the map of Tassie jokes but, hey, it's something I never tire of. There were some slippery bits up the middle, some impressive forests in parts and, unexpectedly, I came across a little man in a boat up near the top.
As to the weather: it was mostly cold, no serious rain but some drizzle, it snowed a few days before we got there and at times it was very windy. All in all not bad and many of our American & Canadian friends must ride in worse for much of the year.
Cheers

A wonderful place , I've visited 5 or 6 times but only once on 2 wheels , a Suzuki 70 Stepthrough 40 years ago !

I rode it down from Brisbane ...a long slow trip !
The R80ST I ride now would be more fun !

I've heard that the dude in the boat is one of the more influential citizens.
Sounds like a great trip, Ray. I'm looking forward to doing a lap o' the map meself one day.

Great stuff Ray. Excellent destination.
I bet that little man in the boat has been blown all over the lake.
