A guy walked into a bar...

I'm new here, and have been perusing the forum for a couple of weeks now. I recently was having brunch, okay, day drinking, at my local watering hole, and one of the bartenders comes in and asks if I will help go upright his bike, apparently someone had knocked off the sidestand. I knew he rode, but had never actually seen his bike and always thought it was a Japanesse Harley clone. I saw it was a Beemer (1994 R100R), and commented that I had always loved those bikes (never owned one). He said if you ever want it... I guess it had been several years since he had a chance to really enjoy it. Since it had sat for a while, he realized he would either have to pay someone to get it road ready and sell it, or sell it as is. $1100 later and I'm the new proud owner. Thanks to all for the knowledge you have so far shared (lincluding, hopefully, posting the pic). It took a little to get it ready, fluid changes, carb cleaning and synching, etc. I'm at the point now where I almost have to look for things to take apart on it.
Anyway, thanks again for all the shared knowledge, I hope to see you on the road sometime.

Welcome to Boxerworks, deersemaj. That sounds like a heck of a deal there on your bike. Have fun and ride safe.
Where are you located?

Thanks guys; I know I got a hell of a deal. Like I said, it had been neglected for a while (it had '08 plates and an '06 inspection, IIRC). I have to say, I was a little naive about the whole thing at first; he was adamant about me needing to trailer the bike. When we were loading it onto the trailer, I grabbed the front brake and it went softly to the handlebar and stayed there. When I took it apart it appeared as if some hooligan had replaced the brake fluid with sticky goo. I cleaned it all up, and replaced the master cylinder piston. I owned it for several weeks before I even tried to turn it over; I figured there's no point in starting it if I can't stop it... My initial investment might have been a steal, but I'm sure by the time it's all said and done I'll have the "right" amount of money in it and the dirty nails and scars to prove it. It's on the road, and a blast to ride. My '86 4Runner is jealous, she's not getting much attention these days.

I could tell you, but they've 86ed the cheap bikes. I think I got the last one.

Sorry, Richmond, VA. I've updated my profile to show that on my posts...

Welcome aboard! Considering what you paid, you've got a pretty sizable repair budget to use up before investing what that bike is worth. Great find! Excited to see what you do with it!
