Pretty cool, I think. Wunderlich is also making a kit that makes your 1200GS look kinda like an R80 G/S.

For over $4000, I think I'd just buy more Airheads...

I think it's pretty cool but if you really don't like the new bikes, you wouldn't like the new ones with the old looking parts. That is, unless it's only the styling you object to on the newer ones. I gotta admit, I don't like any of the beaky things BMW uses in their modern styling.

Some here have enthused about riding friends' Ducatis. I think the BMW pictured would compare very favorably. Very favorably.

Do you think you could see over an Elefantboy with that seat/tank relationship?

Aesthetically, I don't think it compares with Italy's offerings (Ducati and Guzzi), but it certainly would crush the Goose in performance - at least comparable with the Ducatis in performance. Of course, both the Italian offerings have the advantage of being factory designs, while this Beemer is only shaped by aftermarket part swaps.

I actually find the R1200R much more attractive in person than in photos (although I don't like any of the flat-finish colors), but there's nothing new about Italy making more beautiful motorcycles than Germany.

Do those beaky things have any function? Especially on the dual sport bikes, where it seems like everybody uses them. Do they keep mud and water spray from flying up all around and on you?

They don't look to me like they would work as well as normal fenders, but I don't have a soggy, muddy wind tunnel. And it's not like my front fender, even with the mud flap, works perfectly.

I like this, new styling or rather stripped down styling but without the stupid functionless beak. This just looks like a modern bike and that is just fine with me so of course they discontinued it and kept the beakers .
