Alpine Rally 2013: A few pics

The 43rd (I think) Alpine Rally was held last w/end. Pretty much a fun time had by all, I reckon. The nights/mornings were literally freezing (ie -7C) but the days were bloomin' delightful, more like mid-autumn than winter.
I took a bunch of pics so I thought I'd share a few with you...
On the way up north I had the pleasure of riding through St Andrews and Kinglake, just north of Melbourne. This area was totally scorched by bushfires a couple of years ago. As you can see the regrowth has now hidden the worse scars. But it's still one of the best riding roads within an hour of the CBD. A nice way to start any trip...
Saturday morning at Yarangobilly was misty and fresh... all ready for an onslaught of a coupla hundred dirty biker-types.

Anyhow, enough of the guff... time to show some of the machines that graced the mountains in the early winter of 2013.
Airheads were the most common bike on site. Here's a few that caught my eye.
A couple of original G/S's:
And a much later R80 (I reckon)... If you look closely you can get an idea of what he's got on the menu (well, at least ½ of it).

There were a few /5s spread around... with at least two strapped to chairs (& both R60s):
This beauty:
And the (allegedly 80 mph) beast:
There was this beautiful old timer tucked away in one corner. (R60 or 50/2? Can't remember exactly, but simply magnificent.)
Alan's sweetly restored '79 really caught my eye, mainly 'coz it's almost the same as mine, though much prettier:

Of course there were a few bikes there other than airheads.
Like Andrew's bad boy (done it all himself, too):
There's always plenty of (mad/bad) outfits, like these extreme ends of the scale:
Talk about a burger with the lot!
How long d'ya reckon the drive tyres last on this beast?
And I don't know why but one of the most popular accessories noted on the w/end were trailers... what's that all about?

On Sunday a few brave/foolhardy individuals went for a dip in the nearby thermal pool (apparently it was 27C... doesn't sound very warm to me but they reckon it was pretty good).
Great time had, excellent company, and cool bikes all 'round. But before long it was time to head home...
via the Tolmie road... nice!
See yas next year!

Nice photos Pete. It did look cold in a couple of other photos I've seen.

Yup, was like that - for a split sec - then it was like all shite broken loose... a real good light show.
Top pic, Steve.

John Olive from QLD I believe. He's the bloke on ebay.oz that sells a few airhead bits and pieces.
