BMW questions

It is nice to see the recent spate of questions about our old BMW motorcycles. I suggest first using Google to do a search of the Internet. Here is why.

1. While you can and might encounter some information that is in error, most of it is fairly high quality. You will decide for yourself which site information is written in a way that makes sense to you. You should bookmark the several sites that you may need in the future. Even better is to capture the pages on your computer, just in case the site goes away.

2. You get the information right now, and won’t have to wait the few days it takes for everyone to read it and answer.

3. If you track the answers over time, you will see that some individuals are expert only because they have a keyboard. They “want” to be admired and considered expert, but they just aren’t. The good news is that I see less of this among the few BMW forums that I visit than in some other hobbies and areas of interest.

4. Speaking for myself only, if I have treated the subject on my website, I rarely will answer the question. I have already typed it up with photos, so why should I type it again? Nearly all of my articles have been edited dozens of times to reflect a greater variety of questions I have seen over the years. It is true that I have a few places where my information is confusing and it has kindly been pointed out to me. It is collected for correction when I return to spending time on my site. I have been working for the past 6 years and have made few corrections or additions to my material. I do hope to get back to it one day.

Advantages to asking directly............. after doing the research.

1. New materials and/or procedures have been brought up that could well be superior to the old ways.

2. You may ask a very targeted question that gets answered by a reader who has great expertise in one narrow area that will supply exactly what you need. Those in depth answers by people from whom we may never have heard from before is quite gratifying.

So there's really no need for Boxerworks at all then.
I've never thought about it like that before.

Well, except to explain how to find information about your airhead on the internet.

Oh yeah, I never thought about it like that before.

Duane's POV vs mine

You may recall ME109, that I've had a couple arguments with Duane about what he said again just now. Actually, argument is a bit too strong of a word. Duane has his opinion and mine, by implication is wrong, though Duane hasn't actually said that.

Whenever Duane would say something along the lines that he said just now, I would rise to the bait and mutter about how Boxerworks isn't just about exchange of information. I would bleat something about fellowship and comradarie and then go on to liken Boxerworks to something like a rally where like minded people would discuss their various interests, including BMW motorcycles occasionally, and just generally enjoy each other's company.

With me naively thinking that I just might have him on the ropes he would then respond with----------utter silence!

Cuss his hide! I guess he figures that he's said his piece clearly and more dialogue isn't going to make anybody richer. And it's clear to me that if I persist in the argument I will look and sound like a sheep bleating.

Hmmm, I haven't quite got to that point yet have I?

But just to be safe I'm quitting now.

Duane is rather proud of his website and centuries decades of acquired knowledge.
He also likes to show off. Like me.
Perhaps Duane could attach a forum to his website? Then it would be fair to chastise those who ask questions prior to familiarising themselves with all the information contained within.
Then there would be no need for a forum because no one would need to ask a question because they would have read all the information.

But he also needs to point out that there is very little information on his site for later model bikes.

Just gotta nod and agree and it will be another 6 months before he remembers again.

Outa here.

Do you think he will have a section devoted to crossdressing?

More like cross threading, rounded nuts, bra zing, stripped threads, worn rings etc
