If a rattle gun is used to drive the flange puller screw to pull the output flange, would one expect any gear damaged to result?

I think all of the force is being transmitted to the collar that is fastened to the output flange with a long handle. Which, in turn, is being held by either a strong friend (with good health insurance) and a long cheater bar, or some other method of keeping the flange bar in place.

I could easily be wrong.

That was my thinking too but then I thought about the impulse forces that act quicker than muscle. Just wondering if an impact gun is used by others.

I would think not, but have never done it that way. There is no need if one uses the proper puller tools. I think of rattle guns as useful for a high production rate, not a one=off job like this.

Besides, I always want to know how hard it was to break loose, so I usually use my beam torque wrench.

I've done hundreds of them with a rattle gun with no problems.
