I'm getting ready for a long trip, so I washed my dirty Gore Tex riding gear with Nikwax special soap, and sprayed the suit with a Nickwax spray that is supposed to keep the suit light in the rain. The suit can get wet and heavy if the exterior gets soaked, even though you stay dry inside. The spray is supposed to make the suit shed water so it stays light and the Gor Tex can breath, so you stay comfortable. I've never gotten wet in this suit, even in all day deluges. But the suit did get heavy last time I was out in monsoon conditions. A good friend of mine says these preparations don't work. Anybody experienced with this stuff?

I'm also upgrading the armor in this suit with D3O material that is soft until it impacts, then gets hard. It's a miracle for riding protection, at least that's what I'm hearing! Comments?

I've used some of the Nikwax products, and they worked as advertised, but I can't remember If I've used the one you're asking about. Every back-packing store seems to have gone exclusively to their products for everything except leather boot treatments.

The magic armor was in my First Gear jacket when the Duc spit me off. Although there was some nice road-rash, uhm, I mean "street cred," on the left forearm, elbow, shoulder, and back of the jacket, those parts of my body received no injuries, so it appears to work. I broke ribs, but had no chest padding.

I'm assuming the First Gear jacket had the D3O? Sounds like it worked! I hope the Multistrada I'm renting doesn't spit me off!

Ooooooo, the new style Multistrada is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice.

And, it has the enormous advantage of not looking like a scooter like the old style Multi.

And, it has the enormous advantage of not looking like a scooter like the old style Multi.

The main reason I wanted the MS is the ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) in conjunction with semi active damping automation (Skyhook). This should give me total control of the ride and performance of the suspension. The MS is also a lot lighter than any other bike in a comfortable sit up riding position. 150HP well....that too!
