So I'm getting my plan together for the overhaul of my 72 75/5 and am leaning towards rebuilding my Bings instead of just laying out close to $500 for Mikunis in hope that this will leave room in the budget for some other upgrades. Can anyone suggest what I should purchase for a FULL rebuild of my Bings? I've checked out the various gasket and O-ring kits available but I have a feeling that there are probably more wearable parts that should be replaced. I have no reason to believe that the carbs have ever been rebuilt since everything I've inspected seems to be original from the factory. Also after checking out Motobins their prices even with the exchange rate seem to be the best around however I don't know if shipping would offset the price difference.Thoughts?

Best price on the web and free shipping:
http://www.eubmw.com/Carb.html The only other parts that
might need replacing are the slide needles and jets, the floats if they're old and the float needles. I personally don't change the o-rings on the butterfly shafts, too many pitfalls... Of course there's always the option to buy everything directly from BING.

BMW dealers supposedly have better prices than Bing. Never tried that before, but that's what I've heard.

If the Bings are all original OEM components, that's 41-year old O-rings, diaphragms, floats, gaskets... blah blah blah and etc.
I would recommend a full strip down and cleaning of the carb bodies -save the butterfly O-rings as mentioned- and a rebuild to include all new jets, needle jets, needles, float needles and seats, Bing diaphragms (for sure) and perhaps even the emulsifer. In other words, the works. That'll insure you'll have a very fresh pair of carbs on your 75/5.
FYI, I bought all my 32mm Bing overhaul bits from Motobins. The entire package was quite small and Royal Air Mail was faster to Texas and equal to or less cost than several USA vendors.
My $0.02

On a carb that could have had 40 years between rebuilds, I would suggest replacing both the needles and the needle jets, I would also replace the butterfly valve O rings, yes it is a hassle but not doing this on my 90/6 led to annoying surging on small throttle openings. To do this you will need to add 4 throttle plate securing screws to the order list. I loctited mine in position.
