Steve, just a quick question, what size (dia) are the Xmas tree fasteners?

I use a similar system but they are a nylon screw In a holder that I push in (similar to your #3). Once screw is tightened up they are in solidly but I removed the copper/brass bushings in that RS. Your system I'd like to try in another RS I picked up which still has the brass bushings in but need to replace windscreen as its kaput and the rivets have been drilled out already.

Thanks, Bob

PS: the new to me 83 RS could be a twin to ME109's....that luverly Polaris Grey....ha ha....just have to get the bullet holes

Good method to attach the screen Steve. I'll be looking to do similar when I get around to putting my new/s/hand fairing on.
Out of interest, where does that long tubular rubber fairing seal go? I pulled it out from somewhere a while back and it's one of those 'where the hell did that come from?' deals.

You've joined the elite moosehead! just mail that tank over here, I'll sort those holes fer ye.

The head is 12mm, the shaft is 5mm wide and 15mm long.
#3 is the oem rivet.

I've never had one on any RS that I've had before. Does the gasket have holes in it? Fiche would suggest not. That makes me think it's b/w the fairing and dash? I've never seen one in situ though.
If the gasket had holes I'd guess b/w the screen and dash?

It's a long, black, round length of rubber about 2.5mm diametre.
From memory it came from between the dash and the fairing....must have been to keep the wind out?

Wind.....Yes. (prevents the high-pitch whistle on some installations.)
Also keeps the water out when you ride in the rain.
Who doesn't?

A reply I got from another...
It goes on right under the windsheild ( screen?), and you lay it there as you put the windsheid on. There is a little gap where the dash, fairing, and windshield meet.
I'll have to go and have a look see. That doesn't sound intuitive to me.
