Re: Tyre FAQ from Avon
The paper said it would cover 8 items...I only saw 7. I wish the article would have covered something about the use of tubless tires on tube-type rims. Always a hot-button topic when people discuss running snowflakes tubeless.

As far as 'the paper' could be concerned, there is no discussion. On a tube type rim, fit a tube. 'The paper' could support no other view.Kurt in S.A. wrote:The paper said it would cover 8 items...I only saw 7. Very interesting document. I was surprised to learn that tires grow and also that a 4.00x18 was possibly only 95% aspect ratio.

Never knew about the aspect ration of 4.25 tires making them lower. Good information on checking for too much load by monitoring pressure. Do any of you powder your tubes? On my vehicles with wire wheels, I powder the tubes with baby powder before installing them. Supposedly prevents scuffing or pinching by providing lubrication of a sort.

I suspect, in respect to the aspect ratio, inspection would support speculation, that the lower aspect tyres are responsible for the over optimistic speedometers.
Me 109, aspecting way to much after this much red.

Wow, thanks for sharing this tome. I am so impressed. I learned a few things too. Mostly it confirmed what I have been saying for many years............. mostly to a deaf audience.

I agree, I did not realize that there was such a differance between fitting 4.00 and 4.10 tyres on my commando.barryh wrote:Very interesting document. I was surprised to learn that tires grow and also that a 4.00x18 was possibly only 95% aspect ratio.
It has very narrow WM2 Borrani rims, 19" front and back, so I'm trying to decide which tyres to fit. As far as I can see Avon seem to be the only mainstream suppliers with 19" rear tyres, but don't seem to have 4.10s in the Roadrider series. I don't really want to go to the expense of putting on WM 4 rims........ I have not yet spent any time on the bike so nervous about spending too much until I get the engine running and have an idea of what I'm up against.

I always use powder to avoid scuffing and pinching, my favorite is Old Spice.jagarra wrote:Never knew about the aspect ration of 4.25 tires making them lower.
