Painting engine & g/box

Hi,
Im in the process of decision making reguarding a total repaint. So Ive been trolling every BMW pic for inspiration and came accross this one -

It appears that the g/box, rocker covers etc are all painted in the same 2pack paint as the frame & tank.
I was under the impression that anything other than hi temp paint would not be suitable for engine, g/box, diff, timing covers etc.... and will blister & peel.
Anyone had any experience painting these components or have feedback as to how well such painting has aged ?

I would think that powder coating would be better as far as handling the dings that come from Re & Re ing the covers.

Modern paints can handle the temps that all the cases get to. The only problems as far as temps go would be on the heads and perhaps the cylinders.

This engine block and starter cover are painted with plain old spray bomb paint:

I'd like to do something similar if I do another airhead.

For Toga, I'd worry that something painted the same color as the frame or bodywork might not keep that color over the next 1MM kilometers. Contrast may be the thing for you.

I actually have one of those old school chopper tail lights. So far I haven't found quite the right place to use it. But if I ever do an old school Harley bobber I'll be set for shining rear lumens.

I do like the look of that one, Garnet. A very nice even, uniform look & texture.

I have seen a few bikes painted this way and over time the paint gets dull and ugly. I wouldn't do it.

Did you consider the reduced cooling affect?

Hey Toga, I've just lathered my engine and transmission in "Rub n Buff". I have seen other members use it and decided to try it myself. Looks great while the parts are going together, I'll let you know how it really goes after about 20K's. Found mine at Spotlight in Lismore.
