Harley leaving Milwaukee?

Where will they move production to? China?

If they did move, it would be a like a big 'ol Harley boot in the face to Milwaukee. I recently read that they have been making good profits lately despite motorcycle sales being down, by cutting their labor and other costs drastically (read "they laid off most of the people that actually produce something while the executives got a raise"). If that is true then this move would be to make even more money, and the hell with Milwaukee.

What was that motto in a recent ad campaign? "Screw it, let's ride" or something? Maybe it should have been "Screw Milwaukee, let's move production to China".

Harley-Davidson could leave Milwaukee if it can't bring labor costs down

Well Kwaka make bikes in Indonesia. Trouble is the engine casing are really rough looking on the ER6.

Harley should not have followed the other big companies and offered loans to people that could not repay them.

The story wasn't very specific where H-D makes what. The Milwaukee plant only makes engines, and final assembly is done at the York Pennsylvania plant that was briefly mentioned toward the end of the story. Including details on where final assembly might have been moved to might have made the story a bit more complete.

I have heard some scuttlebutt about Texas courting HD but really...

If HD wants to lower the cost of building motorcycles, they could lower the US portion of the completed bikes to 51% by having most of it made in some Eastern country!

Oh... You say they're already doing that?

Never mind....!
