Cleaning the bore on Brembo calipers

I'm reconditioning the rear Brembo calipers on my 78 RS. I have new pistons and seals to install. The bores have some little bits of hard gung that I would like to clean off with steel wool or wet n dry. Is this advisable or is there a chance that I could damage the finish on the bore?

BTW the old pistons were covered in the gung and it's surprising that I had any back brake at all.

Soak it for a while. Scrap carefully with a paddle pop stick :?: I'd use very fine wet and dry to finish.

Yep Steve, wooden scraper is good after soaking. Then I use a bit of dowel with a slot; wrap some fine wet-n-dry around until it is close to the ID and give it a twirl. If the gunge is hiding any pitting you can have the bore re-sleeved at your local engineering shop.
