R90 Wiring Map

One of the things that really irritates me about the various manuals is the quality of the wiring diagrams. The Clymer version is simply unreadable; the BMW version is very nearly so. Both of these are in schematic form and for those people who read schematics for a living they might work ok, but for me they are quite a hurdle.

The Haynes manual version is by far the best to my mind, but still has shortcomings. The idea of using colour is good, but to my somewhat colour-blind old eyes there are some colour combinations I simply cannot distinguish. Also in Haynes the necessity to provide a readable diagram at A4 size meant that the various components have been placed in very odd positions.

With this in mind I decided to try to create a wiring ‘map’ for my bike, in a form that I could read and even possibly understand. I have tried to place components in a sensible relationship with the layout of the bike (within reason, of course). Here is the result so far ...

Image

This is a JPG image created from an A3 sized PDF printed from Autocad. It is not very readable in this form; the colours are a bit washed out and this is the largest image my picture posting site will permit. I am happy to issue the PDF to anyone who is interested – just shoot me an email and I will attach the PDF in a reply. What I would really appreciate is some feedback on readability and accuracy. It's kind of like an essay that I have spent too much time on and can no longer see the obvious spelling or grammatical errors.

If somebody has the patience, time and eyes to compare this to one or all of the other available diagrams I would be very grateful.

That's definitely the sort of thing that needs to be posted here, but in that resolution, it's pretty worthless. When we are able to post to our own galleries here, that will help a lot. Hopefully then you'd be able to load an image at a resolution that can really show off your hard work.

SO WHEN IS THAT FEATURE GOING TO FINALLY BECOME ACTIVE ANYWAY?!!!!!

(I will be thrilled if I discover that it's finally been done and I'm complaining about nothing)

I'll take one via email Charlie, thanks mate, and well done.
you know the address.
I'll have a good look at it and see if it makes any sense to me. If it does, then you are far ahead of Clymer and Haynes. But in that respect, I won't be the best critic. I suck at auto-electrical stuff.

Now now, Major. No need go waking up the other inmates with your shouting. Nurse will be along soon with your meds.

I wonder if it is possible to attach a PDF to a post here, so that others can download. Alternatively I'll try to get a bit of space on a friend's website to link to.

IF we were able to post files to the site, then, yes, we could do that. Since, AFAIK, that still has not been activated, the only way to do it is to have it somewhere else on the web, and then you can link to it.
