Hey guys.

Well. My first post is a disgruntled one. You see, I was supposed to pick a girl up on Thursday from a place about 4 hours from where I am. I can't do it now, and it looks like I won't get to her before she has to go back to work. Unless I fix the bike, or find some other means, I won't 'get the girl.'

What happened? My 1982 R100 won't shift out of second. The lever moves around easily in every direction as if it would shift, but it won't. My clymer's tells me that I'll have to take off the transmission in order to get at the lever mechanism. And this makes sense, it feels like something internal has gone wrong. Do I have time for three days of straight work? No, I am not sure that I do. Even if I did, I doubt that I would have the means.

Any thoughts for a poet without any damn luck?

Welcome to the forum Motopoeta. Faced with similar circumstances I would definitely choose to get laid. If it's only 4 hours by R100, you could easily crawl there on your hands and knees in three days, and there is bound to be some poetry in the experience. Then you can think about fixing the fekkin' bike. Go, son - procreate, or die trying.

ps: if you can find a spare transmission you can install it easily in a day and get your swing-arm bearings and input shaft greased at the same time.

I think he's more concerned with getting his output shaft greased.........

I agree. It's the pawl spring. Bloody $2.50 part goes twang and a shag goes out the window. The world is a cruel, cruel place sometimes. How long would it take to get there in second gear?
