i just bought a eletronic tack it seems to fit into the housing . I,m wondering if it can be used on my /6 that has the mechanical tach, it has three wires coming out of it.green, brown,sort of red. Frank

Did it come with directions? If not, try Google and see what comes up. Do you have the sensor?

No actualling i bought it without paying attention to the fact that is was electical.I dont have the indicator needle either .I bought on impulse. I have a needlr I was going to use and that is to large for the shaft. Maybe some here would like it the thing looks like new dont think it is , Frank It looks like I,m missing a pick up unit? So this thing is no good to me as is. I dont want to ruin it I will research to see what I can do Frank

from kurts link I,m thinking the tach can be used by connecting to the points or the proper pin in the pod . Am I reading that correctly? Frankl .

I use a Electric Tach on my 1973 BMW from a 1977 R100 RT

1 wire lights it, and other grounds it ,and the last one goes to the point side on your coils

besure to cut the end from the cable and reattach it in the block and water proof the rubber the cabe used to pass throught

Your orginal tach cable the part in the motor needs the piece replaced until you take the second cover off the front and remove all the drive parts from the cam chain area for the tach drive

was thinking the drive cable came out of the tranny on this/6/ Any ideas what I can do about a indicator needle for the eletric tach? I have one off of the meahanical tach the shaft side is smaller on the eletrical tach.

Frank, that cable from the tranny is for the speedo. The tacho cable comes out of the left side of the timing chest. You can leave the cable in place for now but you'll need to plug it up when you remove the cable. There is a seal down in the hole where the cable goes - it's best to get something turned up to fit inside that seal, and if it is made the right length it will plug up the grommet in the case.

Re the needle, you could fill the hole in with epoxy and then drill it to suit the shaft. Super glue will probably be sufficient to hold it in place - there isn't much stress on it.
