Re: New brake shoes

I am also interested in further improving my brakes and may make a set of longer levers for the drum. I have wanted to do that for some time but cannot find a welder that I trust that will touch brake parts. Let me know how you make out as I'd love a set of fronts. Here is what I have so far: https...

Re: Annoyed--Roundel Adhesive Situation

I use black silicon (autoparts store) for these applications. I use masking tape to hold the emblem in place while it dries.

Re: Cafe' Racers - Ride Quality

I have seen photos of Chuey's cafe bike and understand that he takes a lot of time to sort and do things right. I think it is great that he is going that route. I have a stock looking 1973 R75/5, but the more I ride it the more I want to modify it. In reality, it has been modified plenty, as I have ...

Re: Annoyed--Roundel Adhesive Situation

3M also has a trim adhesive. It's probably close to the same formula as the weatherstriping adhesive. I think the trim adhesive is black where the weatherstriping stuff is a yellowish color. The yellow stuff is what we used to good effect. We called it gorilla snot. The trick is to prepare it corre...

Re: Tires

scalloping is normal wear and not something bad. Cheap tires are just that, cheap. If you want a tire to stick, then it will wear faster. If you want long life, then you compromise traction. It is that simple if all else is equal. How do you ride? Fast and aggressive, then pay for sticky tires and ...

Re: New brake shoes

Call http://www.vintagebrake.com/ Vince About five years ago, I had vintage brakes do my brakes, front and back, including drum turning and shoe arcing. The brakes were certainly much improved, but this was not the "cheap" route. http://www.vintagebrake.com/drum.htm I have now worn throug...

Re: Tires

I run the stock tire sizes that you mention on my 1973 R75/5. For the past few years, I have used Avon roadriders. They perform great and are quite sticky.

The downside is that I get about 1,800-2,000 miles per rear tire. About double for the fronts.

Re: Crashed!

So glad that you are okay.

I wish you a speedy and full recovery.

From what I can see in your video, based on the indicated speed, the turn and the seemingly decent traction....I think you would have made the turn fine if you had stayed in that turn and leaned more.

Thanks for sharing.

Re: Head Stud Repair Tips

Thanks for the kind words guys. I have not been on the forum much these days, as I have been too busy wearing out tires :D https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-EiBPn5fJUjY/UFzY9vX1cfI/AAAAAAAAuPA/zDXmY0dQEsM/s640/FILE0494.JPG I am not sure that you want to follow in my footsteps on this repair, as I d...
