being an absolute sucker , I purchased a partial R65 engine that looked pretty shabby. I had a vague fantasy that it could be bought back to life or at least provide some spares. Hmm . I have a '79 R80/7 and it has twin discs on the front which I believe was standard. I have seen others of that vintage with twin discs on the front (here in Australia) including R65 . Sounds like some of the attendees at the last rally you went to huh?
I read somewhere (in this forum ,I think) some tangential discussion about some automotive fluid used to make old grommets soft and pliable again. I cant remember what options were recommended for this.

Thanks team. I really appreciate the responses (thus far). The reason I am asking is that I am looking at a used gearbox from an overseas ebay supplier; BMWSalvage in Germany. The the profile on the part states that it is from a '96 BMW R100 GS and is not compatible with R80 g/s. Yet the description...
