Richmond, VA airheads?

I must see dozens around the city, anyone out there? I've been to/by the Richmond Riders Club; mine was the only airhead there that day, and the only one I've seen at their meetings. If there are any on the board, I wouldn't mind flash mobbing a local bar and admiring bikes one day, increasing the a...

Re: R100R driveshaft boot/transmission seal

I'll look into it furthur, but I thought I saw on both of their websites that reconditioned gearboxes were only availble to be shipped to the U.K. I even went so far as to check out to try to calculate shipping with one of them, can't remember which. After I entered my shipping address, the gear box...

Re: R100R driveshaft boot/transmission seal

I'm still waiting on hearing from the shop that has my transmission; they are supposed to be working on a few different options for me. Everytime I go to Max BMW's fische and start adding things up, it looks expensive due to the damaged gears. This leaves me wondering about a rebuilt unit. I looked ...

Re: R100R driveshaft boot/transmission seal

So I ordered all of my parts to replace the seal and the neutral switch. When I got the transmission off of the bike, I turned the output shaft by hand; not good. It was notchy and felt as if there was gravel in the box. Maybe a bit oEif an exaggeration, but clearly not right. I took it to a local s...

Re: R100R driveshaft boot/transmission seal

James, I assume we are talking about your R100R, yes? If so, there should be no "springy side", the seals are different, and they install from the outside/rear of the transmission with what would be the spring side of the earlier style seal facing forward (front of the bike). Thanks Tim. ...

R100R driveshaft boot/transmission seal

I have noticed oil on the right hand side of the frame, near the rubber boot between the transmission and the driveshaft (which does have a small tear and will need to be replaced). My understanding is that my driveshaft is dry, so any oil there must be coming from the transmission, past the output ...

Re: A guy walked into a bar...

And, yet another brake goo challenge comes from the fluid not being refreshed every year. I believe that, now. Like I said, the PO hadn't done much with it in several years. I must say, I was a little surprised by how gummed up it was. I don't think there was any "fluid" left. Funny, I ju...

Re: 73 R60/5 Ignition trouble...Please Help!!

I second DaveM. The clearances are spec'd to allow for thermal expansion. Enough clearnce that when things warm up and expand the valve still closes fully, but tight enough to not give excessive "banging", for lack of a better term, when cold. The exhaust valve has a wider clearance becaus...

Re: A guy walked into a bar...

Consider replacing your brake lines if you have not already done so. They do get mushy and the braided steel lines will make a big difference. Thanks, that's probably a good idea. They don't quite feel spongy when braking hard, but I feel like there's a little "give" to them, if that make...
