Re: Walnut shell or soda blasting a wheel

I've been kicking around the idea of soda blasting the wheels, carbs and other bits on my /5. Harbor Freight sells one for about $100 or you could make your own for a few bucks just to test it out.

/5 Bing rebuild parts list

So I'm getting my plan together for the overhaul of my 72 75/5 and am leaning towards rebuilding my Bings instead of just laying out close to $500 for Mikunis in hope that this will leave room in the budget for some other upgrades. Can anyone suggest what I should purchase for a FULL rebuild of my B...

Re: Spun left rear bearing

I was mistaken, I actually have ME99 tires on the /5. No matter though, I think they are a bit too old to trust my life with them. It's going to be a while before I get to putting new tires on, I'll be sure to start a tire thread when I'm ready since everyone seems to enjoy them. Duane I'm going to ...

Re: Spun left rear bearing

I'm learning that now, it's not something I had considered before buying it. I'm pretty sure it's the original clutch in it still and that whole assembly is on the replacement list. Whoever had it before me did care enough to put ME 77 tires on it although they are showing they're age. She does soun...

Re: Parts Source

Is there a link or list anywhere of air cooled parts/ accessory vendors? I'm familiar with Huckys and dealerships but would like to shop around for products and prices for my /5. I just don't know who is out there other than googling /5 parts. I did find my wheel bearings at Carquest today for $20, ...

Re: Spun left rear bearing

Tim, thanks for the help, I'll have to read over that article once again. I guess getting a bike with only 40k miles on the clock has its downsides like a bearing seizing from sitting so long. I didn't find any water or evidence of any such as corrosion when I took it apart which seems odd. I made t...

Re: Spun left rear bearing

While cleaning up my hub this morning in preparation to locktite my outer race in I made a disturbing discovery- the inner bearing is locked solid.Solid in a way that I tried to spin it until my finger hurt and it still didn't turn. Has anyone ever seen this before? So now its looks as though new bea...

Re: Spun left rear bearing

Airbear,I saw that fix earlier while looking through the archives and I must say that is some great engineering ! If it lasted 15k km who could argue with that?
