98R1100RT No Spark

Anyone have a descriptive procedure on how to test the hall effect sensors on 1100RT? I have the Factory service manual.....tells how to replace parts, no information there on testing. I have determined that I do have ignition on power to one of the five wires going to the hall sensors. I have deter...

Re: How to inspect and service an R1100 Alternator

I have decided that whatever noise I thought I was hearing probably was not from the inside of the alt. Perhaps just the sound of the serpentine belt spinning on the pulleys......probably nothing to worry about. As it turned out this alt probably would have lasted the rest of my days, as it was. The...

How to inspect and service an R1100 Alternator

Here (hopefully is the link to the pictures that go with this post: "http://tinypic.com/a/3bz2c/2". Our RT is our long distance tour bike, hence I try to maintain it in such a way as to avoid on road failures if possible. We acquired this bike from an ebay auction at 72,000 miles with no s...

Re: R100rs lower fairing swap offer

Thank You all for the positive comments. I finished painting the center front lower panel yesterday. I'm pleased.
Still waiting on "Epco" custom Stainless Steel Exhaust to build me a new short crossover pipe that I could not get from BMW.

Re: Drive Shaft assy. Procedure

It's kind of a trick. Couple of technical thoughts here. The driveshaft has to be "Timed" so that the U-joints are rotating in "phase" with each other. They can be assembled wrong. Best bet is to assemble the driveshaft splines on the bench insuring that both u-joints are exactly...

Re: R1100 Crankshaft specs

The problem was indeed a worn rear main (thrust) crankshaft bearing. With no history on the machine, it's hard to imagine why that bearing alone should have been worn out at 72,000 miles while all the others were fine. I installed a low mileage (14,000) used engine. See the photo of the failed beari...

Re: 1998 R1100RT Switched Power

OK, thanks for the replies. I intend to install a relay and a new circuit ......I sometimes dislike having a gazillion extra spades stacked up on the battery terminals. I think I'll investigate further into the relay box to see if I can pick up a hot wire of from a starter relay which (might?) be wi...

Re: ignition switch and proximity kill switch project

So when the new system fails to start on a cold rainy morning......how difficult is it going to be to diagnose the problem.
Maybe a padlock would be a better option?
