Yes George. My problem is not knowing anything about this and discovering what is currently in there, and wondering why the original owner bought that new 16 mm piston.George Ryals wrote: ↑Sat Jun 01, 2019 11:36 am Your reference to the look up clearly says 16mm diameter right above the yellow warning triangle.

Re: '79 R65 Front Brake Locked, Can't Open Tank & Unknown part
If it turns out you have a single disk with a 16mm master cylinder then the brakes will be truly awful and you will need a grip of iron to make them work at all. They are not great with the 13mm and BMW recognised that by dropping to a 12mm for the 81 model year onwards. If you are going to replace...

Single disk. But what about the part number look up at https://www.shopbmwmotorcycles.com/p/BMW_1979_R65/Piston/42760704/32722302357.html ??? That is generic advice. The R65 could come with one or two front disks. A single disc would come with a 13mm master. A double disc with a 16mm master... but....

Re: '79 R65 Front Brake Locked, Can't Open Tank & Unknown part
I'll have a better look at the charger next time over there and see if the old battery that is at 2 or so volts will charge up, and also check the voltage on the R65 battery and attempt a charge. Don't bother. If the battery is reading 2 volts it's finished. Even a fully discharged (good) battery s...

Re: '79 R65 Front Brake Locked, Can't Open Tank & Unknown part
That doesn't sound great. You seem to have caliper issues as well as master cylinder issues. Good luck Rob Yea. Might just be clogged with debris. I'll have a week now to think about it and do some research and will report back if I try anything else. An other thought: Could it be that the lack of ...

Re: '79 R65 Front Brake Locked, Can't Open Tank & Unknown part
s. As far as the battery charger goes, you should be safe enough on the 2 amp setting for 24 hrs. The charge rate will drop back as the battery voltage increases. The reversed poles are more of a problem but that shouldn't stop you from trying things out. Rob The battery cables under the seat looke...
