Re: ignition switch and key for '74 R90/6
I just saw a 1971 R50/5 on BAT, that has this same ignition switch. I also rechecked the frame tag and it reads "R90/6" Perhaps someone grafted a /5 headlight shell onto this bike, but that would require huge amount of rewiring. Looks "factory" Another mystery

ignition switch and key for '74 R90/6
I'm working on electrical issues on a friends' 1974 R90/6 (that is what the frame tag confirms.) First thing I couldn't find is the ignition switch! What I find is 2"-long rod with a plastic handle on top that fits into a hole under a sliding plastic cover, mounted to the top of the headlight s...

Making shift and brake pedals wider
I've had my 1993 R100R since June and am still getting used to it. But one thing I really want to change is the width of the shift and brake pedals. In my normal riding stance, I have to move my feet towards the center of the bike to hit the pedal. In fact, the brake pedal takes a bit of hunting to ...

As the one who started this thread...
I adjusted the clutch per the book and now 1st gear is easier to get. Imagine that!

Re: Difficult getting into 1st from neutral, R100R
One discrepancy I found in the above referenced rubberchickenracing PDF and the factory manual is where to measure the 201m. The PDF says to measure from the rear edge of the transmission to the front edge of the cable barrel . The factory manual seems to indicate you measure to the front edge of th...

Difficult getting into 1st from neutral, R100R
I've only had my 1993 R100R for 3 months. It has about 43K miles. I just finished a by-the-book factory major service. Tranny oil is fresh. Clutch cable and controls oiled and working smooth. The one thing I've noticed since I received the bike is that is is very difficult to get it into first after...

Thanks for the confirmation. There appears to be a bracket for the the overflow pipe. I will route the vent to the airbox.

1993 R100R emissions plumbing...missing?
I've had a 43K mile 1993 R100R less than a month and am slowly going through it, doing all the major service "by the book". One job involved replacing the petcock screen filters. I removed the tank so I could remove the petcocks without spilling gas everywhere, and found two metal tubes st...

Re: New BMW onwer, 1993 R100R
Good idea about the carb needles. I've never worked on Bings, but have experience with lots of different carbs over the years, so I doubt they will be a problem. Cam chain: Another good one. Is this an interference engine, i.e., if the cam chain breaks the do the valves hit the pistons? Regarding th...

Re: New BMW onwer, 1993 R100R
Thanks to Rob and Steve for the long and detailed advice. I should have stated in the beginning that I am experienced at car and motorcycle repair and restoration. I've owned everything from a Bonneville record-holding Cagiva 125cc to a Honda CBX, with Guzi LeMans, Yamaha RD400, Ducati 750GT and oth...
