Re: RT Fairing
Drilling out rivets: think of it as drilling off one end of the rivet. it is really a tube that is flared on both ends. If you use a larger drill, or counter sink, to cut one flare away; it is better than a smaller drill which may just enter and spin the rivet. The tool to compress is basically a bo...

Re: Getting My '83 R100RT Up On Center Stand Difficult
I agree with the method of having your right toe on, or backing up the left side foot of the center stand. If you can get your calf in front of the foot peg, knee slightly bent, and straighten your leg out while pulling up on the grab handle; your leg adds a pit of force to roll the bike up and back...

Re: Mist Again ...
Getting it out is easier than keeping it out. A couple of sunny days will get it out. To do get it out quickly; you need to remove the cluster. 2 screws facing the gas tank pass through the bracket to a plate with threaded holes. Loosen and the cluster will move up and forward. Unscrew the speedo ca...

Re: Oh the horror!
Yes, a"stretch" is a more accurate description than "bind".
They are probably variable pitch as the threads get closer to the head.
That would pull back, or "stretch", the portion of threads already engaged.

Re: Oh the horror!
I think the reason for replacing the bolts every time is that the bolts
are interference fit. Meaning, the threads are slightly oversize
and bind (self-lock).

Re: Those butterfly shaft screws...
If you use Red Loctite; I suggest you apply a small amount to the last few threads in the shaft, opposite the head. To remove them you will need to heat the end with the Loctite above 400 degrees. You want to heat the head as little as possible. If you heat it to the annealing point of the brass the...

Re: Painting an RS
Replace the wind screen rivets with black nylon binding screws and nuts. OMG! He has all the slots perfectly horizontal. Yeah, so, everybody knows that horizontal slots break up the airflow so you get less buffeting at helmet height. By the way, the proper way to install them is to wrap the ...

Re: Painting an RS
Taking it apart is important. If you don't, paint will bridge the seams and crack
when the fairing flexes. Its not hard to do. I repainted mine with OEM Glasurite
paint.
