Better than an oil thread...
Well, maybe! I've been a great fan of the R60/6, R100RT, R100R and R80ST. My brain says the R100R is great to ride but has the unnecessary complexity and potential weakness of a Paralever but it does have amazing 4pot brakes... The R100RT, post 84, also has tubeless tyres and decent brakes. The R80S...

Re: Oil Leak
Agh! Old bikes. Rubbish, eh? My petrol tap has worn out the indents that make that lovely click in all three positions. No spares available but a new tap is at £40.
I'm pondering how much I really like the clicks...

Re: Charging issue
If your generator light has always been dim it sounds like you've always had a problem that has deteriorated a little more. 13v seems low for charging - 14v would be much more cheering. A bad earth or poor connection somewhere would be a likely culprit given the age of the bike but brushes that are ...

Re: R80/100 carb frustrations... (cont.d)
Yes, Seth, I think that's what may have happened which fits in with gspd's suggestion that it has enlarged the passage the tip engages with. Still, at least things are almost 'normal' now on the adjustment front. Doubtless there will be more fiddling around but for now I'm just going to enjoy riding...

Re: R80/100 carb frustrations... (cont.d)
Yep, I agree Kurt. After some faffing around I connected up the Carbtune again and reduced the throttle stop setting on the lh carb until the lh pot cut out. Then I backed out the idle screw and it fired up again - the best setting is about a third turn out rather than the book recommended 3/4 turn ...

Re: R80/100 carb frustrations... (cont.d)
Well, who knows. By screwing in the new, correct idle screw I can get a beautiful tickover... but only with the new screw screwed as tightly home as I dare. You can clearly hear that cylinder fire up as the screw starts to hit the stop - it ticks over beautifully on both cylinders and picks up smoot...

Re: R80/100 carb frustrations... (cont.d)
Hi gspd, yes, I've been having similar thoughts. I've only ever seen brass ones before but they are indeed identical - or at least they look it... I have the idle at 1000rpm (on the tacho) and it is smooth and balanced according to the Carbtune gauges. No stutter on pick up - very smooth in fact I d...

Update...
Having pondered all gspd's advice I stripped both carbs again. No problem with the idle circuits on both sides - spray through from the idle air passage at the carb inlet comes out of both tiny bypass passages below the butterfly on both carbs. I enjoyed the need for various support devices to make ...

Re: R80/100 carb frustrations... (cont.d)
Thanks gspd. Shorting was only for idle. Tbh, having done that and then tried it with the Carbtune I felt the Carbtune was just as good and a whole lot less faffing about. The pick up is now very pleasant on the throttle but I'll try the individual cables as you suggest and report back and also the ...

Re: R80/100 carb frustrations... (cont.d)
Ah, I've failed to explain. Tickover 1000rpm, balanced at 1500 to ensure throttles open evenly ie cable free length is equal
