Re: Pulled Cylinder Stud
SUCCESS!! I wound up using a case saver from a vw shop. The stud in question is the right upper front and a time-sert or in this case big-sert would have obstructed the oil passage as they are designed to be mounted flush with the surface. I cut the case-saver down to 20mm so it fits right behind th...

Re: Case Saver specs PLEASE!!
OK, so it looks like the outside threads of the case saver are M14x2.

Case Saver specs PLEASE!!
I have been searching the web for case saverthreaded insert specs for a pulled cylinder stud repair. A lot of people sell them, but no one lists any specs other than ID10mm OD14mm. Is the inside M10x1.5? Which drill bit and tap do I use? How long are they? I actually bought some EZ-LOC inserts but r...

Re: Pulled Cylinder Stud
The Timeserts are much larger as mentioned above and I'm certain that they will work. If it doesn't then you can have an oversize insert machined at a machine shop or look at many other standard oversize insert sources. I would not replace the case. With very little aluminum left between stud hole ...

Re: Pulled Cylinder Stud
There is a pretty good thread here: http://boxerworks.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=466 and a good pictoral by Frog here: http://picasaweb.google.com/blaisedescollonges/SlashFiveThreadRepair2010?authkey=Gv1sRgCOKW7sKaptKfQA# Thanks, but that does not address my issue of the previously installe...

Re: Pulled Cylinder Stud
One of the local airhead gurus told me that since the helicoil stripped the case nothing else will fix it and I have to replace the case?

Pulled Cylinder Stud
Unfortunately I have to repair a pulled cylinder stud on my 1992 R100GS. It is the right side, top exhaust which also holds the rocker assembly. The helicoil installed by a previous owner has sheared the threads off inside the case hole which measures +-11mm inside diameter. I am trying to refrain f...

Re: pinging in right side
Well, tomorrow is airhead maintenance day. Thanks to you I am now aware of rocker arm end float shim adjustment and will investigate this along with adjusting the valves. I will post my findings and thank you all so far.

Re: pinging in right side
The pinging or ticking is present at idle. When I put my ear to the valve cover I hear a distinct mechanical ping emanating form the right side, it is not present on the left. This noise was present before I replaced the valve adjuster screws/nuts.
