Re: 75/5 Maintenance and expectations for newbie
Thanks all! The whine is only when starting and the "clunk" isn't really bad at all. I'm pretty sure that this is just me being overly concerned. That said, I'll probably end up taking it apart with the service manual in hand and check specs to be on the safe side. The tranny seems fine (I...

75/5 Maintenance and expectations for newbie
Regards and thanks in advance for the tips! I'm the guy that posted the thread about Mikuni carbs for my 75/5. Seems that shes running great now so I have a few questions before I put some miles on her. In the last 10 years, very little miles were put on my machine. I swapped my bings with Mikunis b...

Re: R75/5 w/Mikuni question
And when you are headin' down a nice curvy road well out of town with a grin on your face and everything feeling right - that would be a good time to thank your grandpappy for the fine inheritance. I have a grin on my face just thinking about it! Good call on getting the battery checked out. I wond...

Re: R75/5 w/Mikuni question
Had more time to play around than I was expecting this weekend which was a nice surprise! 3/4 valves were within spec. Only the exhaust valve on the left cylinder (the one thats running nicely) was slightly out of spec on the open side. Now that I know this I can hear a faint ticking coming out of t...

Re: R75/5 w/Mikuni question
Thanks for all the info! Will update as I find out more. Wish I had more wrenching time but work, grad school and keeping the girl happy are kicking my butt. For some reason she doesn't believe that hanging out in the garage is "quality time." Here's a pic of what I'm working with. Shes in...

Re: R75/5 w/Mikuni question
Curiosity got the best of me and I pulled the valve covers. Didn't get the time to get out the feeler gauges, but by "eyeballing it" all valve clearances seemed reasonable. I was able to spin all the push rods and everything seemed tight and nothing seemed to be adjusted very far off from ...

Re: R75/5 w/Mikuni question
Thank you all for providing feedback! Before I dive into tuning I am going go check valve specs and then move on to ignition timing. I have a hunch that my ignition system is on due to her running nicely for part of last year. I was pleasantly surprised that the bike had a ton of torque that came on...

Re: R75/5 w/Mikuni question
Adding a bit of information as I scour the Internet for more knowledge. My right cylinder seemed off with my Bings and also seems off a bit with the MIkunis as well. With the filters off she coughs a bit of fuel/air out of the right side carb a bit. Usually only after i rev her up a bit and the revs...

R75/5 w/Mikuni question
First post on your forums. Glad to be here and thanks for your advice; in advance! A little history on my machine: I inherited a '70 r75/5 from my grand father. Have been doing some minor tinkering with it for years and finally got her on the road last year. I rebuilt my Bings and had her running de...
