You are safe to tap that dent out with some sort of bucking bar to back it up.
That is an extruded tube insert and not part of the casting.

Re: Clutch pressure plate bolts - stuck
I have been able to make a plan in this sort of situation by firmly tapping in a "torx" bit into the damaged allen socket head. The light hammering action to force it in will also help to crack it loose. We get those Torx bits here in South Africa reasonably cheap and they are nice and har...

Re: ME 109 has inspired me.
I did it twice, got very similar results the second time around with new solder wire.
I can't remember the measurements off the top of my head but I aimed for tighter rather than looser.

Re: ME 109 has inspired me.
Why are so many people going to the trouble of rebuilding their transmissions and not replacing the input shaft bearing? It was NLA, everything else was available at my local bearing supplier for prices well within my budget. It looked as good as a newly minted coin. I did not want to mess with rem...

Re: ME 109 has inspired me.
Garnet I recently used the solder squish method to measure mine. It worked out fine. For the heating source I used one of those disposable can butane torches and got it just spit sizzle hot. After reassembly I made sure I could turn the input shaft by hand, well I used a pipe wrench with a rag wrapp...

Re: Hello from South Africa
Thanks Jean, that's interesting and I had not considered that it could affect the gas mileage. I will see how the new needles and jets do as they are ordered anyway then have a look at the leads and coils.

Re: Hello from South Africa
Thank you all for the welcomes. My old BMW is running beautifully and in daily use. There are a couple of niggles, I have an annoying engine oil drip from the shelf, probably the rear main seal or oil pump O-ring. My gas mileage sucks. About 12-13 kms per litre or 30 mpg. I have a new set of slide n...

Hello from South Africa
My name is Rick, I have been lurking here for a while and feel it is time I introduced myself. I recently found an old 1977 R100S which I plan to rebuild. Here is a link where the story has been documented. http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=107078.0 Boxerworks is one of a few forums I ...
