Mogas, funky milage sometimes is the result of poor spark at higher RPMs.
the bike is old...I know you've done a lot of work and probably spent a wad, but some new SP wires (use the old coil terminal parts!), some new NGK 5K caps and maybe even some new coils might surprize you.
I gained 10-12 mpg with new coils, wires, and caps some years ago. That was when 6V VW Bosch Blue coils were still available.
We've discussed this on this forum.
Here in 'Merica, running with plates that are not quite the same bike is called "grey license".
Just don't get into trouble where someone wants to see the papers!!

Thanks Jean, that's interesting and I had not considered that it could affect the gas mileage. I will see how the new needles and jets do as they are ordered anyway then have a look at the leads and coils.

It affects the milage because sometimes one or the other SP does not fire!! You don't notice this when running along at 100kph or so but it's happening. Finally, the bad coil or wire begins to affect the idle and THEN you notice!
First you will work on your carbs...more than once. Then you will change your spark plugs. Then you will say to self, I wonder if the wires/coils are not doing their job? They will test out good with an ohm-meter...
Don't ask me how I know this. Everyone else "here" knows how I know!!
And Major Softie will now announce how I know ignition problems are caused by bad capacitors...also after working the carbs over at least 3 times!

My R100/7 also got terrible mileage, mostly at speed though.

BTW, all my carb problems have been ignition related, and all my ignition grief have been caused by my carbs.

Sorry, I can't help with the slap thing. That was just a metaphor on my part. My quest for humor leads me to places I don't normally dwell. I'm a peace loving hippy.

I think Major Softie's call for help shows that he doesn't think things through as well as he lets on. Violence begets violence and before you know it, that surrogate slap at Native/5 will obligate him to return and a silly girl fight volley of slaps will result. Meanwhile, Major Softie is sitting back at his cornputer, selling tickets and cheering on the slapfest and getting rich off of selling viewing rights. Escalation could result and eventually, the end of the civilized world.

A dainty hand can slap you silly but it takes a bigger man to walk away from a slappy mess like this one.

Now, we should return to the subject of assisting Mogas using less gas and help him design the most aerodynamic top box possible for his steed.

Doesn't seem likely. We, including Native, were all having such a good time. I can't imagine that he got offended by something like that - he's too familiar with the tone here. After all, he was playing along just fine. Geez, at least I hope he wasn't.


I wonder what's going on and if it has something to do with the software "improvements," or if he accidentally got deleted when Matt was deleting all the spammers.
