Heated bib

Post by Zombie Master »

A while back I posted about a new product produced by the Areostich guys. I just got mine and tested it yesterday.

Here is a link with the owners manual if you are interested. http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cac ... 8-f7xIS7mQ
I was interested in this product because I am always looking for way to reduce the amount of gear I have to carry when touring. I even bought saddlebags, but cannot bring myself to use them.

So....it was a cool day yesterday, lots of moisture in the ocean air from a rain earlier, and I wore the bib right next to my body, with just a cotton turtle neck between. My riding jacket was a Gortex riding shell, no inusulation in the jacket. I wore a light Polar fleece windstopper jacket over the bib and nothing else. That was too hot! I ordered my bib with the optional lighted switch and coiled cord. I like this option very much. On my return trip I wore the light Polar fleece windstopper jacket between the bib and my chest. That was just right and the heat was more diffused. I think the bib will do the job along with heated grips and smart layering. I have reduced my load. The thing packs very small! Less stuff is better for me. It's warm. It works.

Did you buy it direct, or is there a CDN supplier?

ZM,
Looks like a nice item to carry. Small and efficient.

Did I miss that you did not buy the Digital Controller?

I have the Duo-Troller on my Gerbings and what a difference it was for me to go from a on / off heated system to a Digital Controlled system. It maybe beter suited to my climate where temps can vary a little more heere in Central Ca.
to turn it up or down? I dont know? But I sure dig mine.

I bought it from Riderwearhouse. I've always had good service from them.

No I didn't buy the digital controller. When I'm cold I'll turn it on. I found that even after tuning it off the heat remained for quite a while.

With innovations like the bib, gortex riding gear that makes rains suits redundant, tents small as a loaf of bread, I'm finding I just don't need the storage!

Yea, but then you have no storage space for road kill: weird marsupials and all y'all must find and BBQ when touring.

Or is that just my fantasy? :)

Well, the "weird marsupials" part is kinda a Down Under world reference.

Possums would seem weird if we didn't see them all the time.

Rule number 1. There's always more room when touring.

And, if yer lucky enough to get a weird marsupial, yer can store extra stuff in its pouch. Like a spare change of clothes.
Or potatoes. Kangaroos are good for that.
As a matter of fact the very last roo I got came in handy to carry my broken front fender home.
