Will it make 2000 miles?

Or 3,219 kilometers, whichever comes first.

The teeth are uniform all the way around. The photo makes it look like the teeth at the bottom are gone, but they are there. Oil was perfect. No metal, no leaks - I sure hate to pitch this rear end.

If there is still a flat area on the top of each tooth, then you have many miles left. if it has worn past that point, the wear will accelerate as the contact surface gets reduced. What does the wheel look like?

The wheel looks much more square. On the hub there is a rounded flat across the top of the teeth. They are not pointy yet.

Good to go! Note: if you decide to get the splines rebuilt at Hansens, the $180 they quote is only for spline repair on a removed crown gear hub. If you send the complete unit it's closer to $800 for the parts, rebuild, assembly etc.

At least one more 4000km ride left. Measure the width before you leave.
Inspect and measure again after the ride.

Brad, those splines won't leave you behind. I'm worried about the other stuff.

Everything is golden - changed motor, transmission and rear end oil and it was all good. I will check the valves, but they sound good so I don't think I will find anything. I am pretty sure I don't have much fork oil, but I will drain out whatever is there and replace new. New plugs and a carb balance are on the list. I have a new front tire on order. You just worry about that old beater of yours.

I hope I don't have to go that way ---

I would bet 5k miles no problem. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'd bet money. ;)

If the teeth aren't yet pointed, they will last that long. You can possibly get more miles by cleaning out all of the lube on both parts and replacing with new clean stuff. We have no way to know how much gritty stuff is in there to help grind it down faster.

My guess is that it can go another 8-10 k safely. That would be gentle riding with no wheelie starts, or skidding the rear wheel when downshifting. Ride like an old man instead of the stud that you are.
