Saturate a piece of rag with acetone and lay it on the spot. It will take time and some rubbing. The dear wife likes to melt her heels on my mufflers!

Success! People recommended kerosene, WD 40, acetone, oven cleaner, a hot air gun, nail polish remover, heat the engine and use a plastic card and wet towel, freeze spray, and gun barrel cleaner.

The problem is that all the melted stuff on exhausts is not the same. Plastic bags, micro fiber cloth, rain clothes, straps, ladies shoes and riding gear of all sorts. Different materials. The stuff on my exhaust was from straps with a loop on each end sometimes known as "soft ties". It was puddled somewhat thick.

I used several new one sided razor blades and WD 40. The WD 40 was in no way a solvent. Just a lubricant. The blades were at almost no angle to the chrome finish. It was "getting the camels nose under the tent". The blade would not cut the melted nylon or the chrome. But it would just separate one from the other. Then chrome polish. And polish.

If I had the freeze spray I would have tried that but it all worked out. Thanks.

WD is not really a lubricant, more of a penetrant, release agent, moisture displace, and cleaner. I don't think it even says lubricant on the label.

Maybe not but it's good for arthritis and you can put it on your fishing bate too. Also remove stickers and duct tape.

Mostly I use it to lube up the tire bead when installing tires.

I have had good results in the past with reheating the exhaust to melting plastic temperature and whiping the molten plastic off with a rag

Like Paul Harvey said, "Now the rest of the story". WD stands for Water Displacing and 40 is the number of times it took to develop it.
