Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I'll post back with an update on how things go with Hill Headworks.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks again for your advice. Checking the cam lifters turned out to be a good idea. Mine were showing a lot of wear, though the cam lobes looked fine.

Getting my heads done at Hill Head & Machine Works in Seattle worked out very well. They pulled 'em apart, checked the valves and springs (which didn't need replacing), put in new guides and fixed up the seats. The heads are now by far the cleanest looking part of my bike. From what I saw of the place, they spend a lot of time working on very large marine engines, but doing my heads was no big deal to them (said they had about a half-dozen other sets in at the same time). I just finished putting the bike back together and everything seems to be running pretty well.

Total time they were in the shop was 4 weeks (which included the holidays), total cost was just over $300.
