So I've put my new bike on the road, and because it had not be registered, I had to call the dealer to let him know the bike was now registered. He informed me that sent activated the warranty in January because there was a promotion where the manufacturer gives a 3 year warranty. But last time I had a Suzuki they didn't honor the warranty when my cams were fatigue spalled. So my plan was to just ignore the warranty on this bike in order to keep it out of the hands of the always inept shop staff. (a ubiquitous feature of all motorcycle shops in my experience of owning 42 bikes). I've thought to ask the dealer if I could just pay for the service and would he stamp my book, and do the work myself. I thought of asking the shop owner if he would do the service himself. I think he'd be OK, he's not a certified mechanic himself, but I think he could do it. What would you do?

Still have a few farkles to install, like a bigger tank but it's a good ride and very simple to work on.

I'd buy a second hand bike with no warranty. :geek:

A diminishing warranty no doubt. Find out what you get and what you don't.

You might be able to pay more, and hover around/over the appointed employee carrying out prescribed tasks.
And no doubt a premium on top would allow questions.

How many services in three years?
You can always re-check their work.

I couldn't find a good used DR for a good price. Guys were asking more used than I paid new. Yea I would have to check their work, if they even did the work.

Yea, I'm about to change the coolant on the KTM, in order to fill the system the front end of thebike must be lifted 20 degrees to avoid air pockets. A valve adjustment will be a multi day project, if I have to get shims. But the bike rocks. :twisted:

What are the warranty laws in Canada? Here you can do all the periodic maintenance work yourself. What exactly can you do yourself and remain under warranty in Canada?

ZM, I actually wasn't talking about your KTM. A bloke I know has a 650 Duke, latest model and the thing is a crock. I goes well, very well but it has serious coolant problems and at 9000 km he's on his second bike , the first having been replaced under warranty. The current replacement bike is doing the same thing.

It seems to me that if you touch the bike they can void the warranty. But I can't prove that. From my past experience that is the case.

My advice is to avoid dealers. I might have some related experience for having that opinion.
Ask the Indians what happens when you don't control immigration.
