Front axle spacer

Post by jagarra »

After I put the dual disk front end back together I did a trial fit of the front wheel. Seems the right rotor was touching the big flats for the calipers. Left side had ample clearance, but the right side did not. Seemed the best course was to narrow the spacer on the side with a lot of clearance. So I took some off on the lathe and gave another fit, now both sides were really close to the flats. Figured I would now wait to see how things fit after I put the new Toaster top plate on there. I think the axle was hanging up on the right leg and binding the slider width.
I checked the parts fiche to see if they were different from single disc to dual and they are not. While I am waiting for a couple of top plate spacers to make it from Toaster I figured I would make a replacement stock width spacer, but I didn't measure it before I narrowed it. :( Does anyone have one they could take a measurement for me.

I installed the toaster top plate a few months ago, don't know if I ride hard enough to feel the difference. Sure looks nice.

Yeah, they are pretty. I have heard, not sure where, that they made an improvement on the handling. I even have a fork brace, but I am not sure if I am going to install it. The old girl is getting tarted up, the lower tree was polished, now the upper toaster one, I even polished the lower sliders and the calipers. Still have rust spots on the frame and checkered paint on the tank, so it still has some patina.
