Many thanks for those helpful suggestions, I was wondering about emptying an aerosol of Mr. Sheen wax over the old girl, and I'd forgotten that tdc is the best resting place.
Both the Berlingo and the trailer will be loaded to the gunnels with the contents of my blacksmithing workshop - so unless I get her to tow them both, the RS will have to wait for next time.

Pull up your speedometer cable rubber boot and fill it up with axle grease, cuz if rain water seeps in there while you're gone, by the time you get back, your tranny will be gone.
