All,
Was wondering if it is possible to get a copy of a folding key? I only have one folding ignition key for my 1995 R100RT and would like a second.
Not sure if this is a dealer purchase or can any good locksmith cut a copy of a folding key blank?
Thx in advance!

I have been under the impression that they are no longer available from official sources. At any time someone could start up making them again.
This may be your chance to be self employed.
Best to ask Vech about this key.
For a person who has too much money and is doing a super restoration job, they MIGHT be able to buy the one owned by my old shop manager, Rod Miller.

Hucky has them:

I got one a few years ago and a local locksmith was able to cut it to match.

Call me Mel. Some years ago- never mind how long precisely- having little or no money in my purse, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would ride about a little and see the other parts of the world.

I bought a spare blank folding key from the states about five years ago.
It's still blank.
If you only have one, you won't lose it.
If you have two, you'll lose both.

Re: Getting a copy of folding ignition key?
That key sold on eBay is for the /7 and later. The folding key first came out in 74 with the /6.
It will work well on the /6 and /5, but isn't the same. It only matters if your are restoring the bike. The /5 never had one provided, we would cut one for customers if they wanted it.
Because of this key question, today Rod brought out his secret stash of very rare BMW items. He has a new gray plastic NOS /6 folding key that is uncut. He also has a spare uncut key part, but not the gray plastic part to go with it. On the "hidden end" is a T for the hinge aspect of the folding feature.
We spent some time fondling his other very rare BMW parts that are made of unobtainium.
His son will inherit it all, but while he owns a BMW rig, he works for Honda and won't know what any of it is for. I encouraged Rod to write up notes for each item so somebody will know the application and get good $$ for them.
