Wall thickness R80/7 swingarm

Post by cuno »

Hi guys,

I'm redesigning the rear suspension of a R80/7 to a monoshock setup. I'm lucky to be able to do this as my master thesis. But I have to run some analyses on the swingarm. therefore I'll have to design it in CAD.
Is there someone who knows the wall thickness of the tubes used for the swing arm is I don't want to cut mine? :D
I could assume that the wall thicknes is the same at both sides (which isn't a bad assumption I think), at the side of the shaft it's about 4mm
and does anyone know the actual material it's made of?

Thanks in Advance!

Re the tube thickness, ADV rider will be your best bet as there are a few there who have lengthened their twin shock swing arm and may have measured wall thickness.

Thicknesses will change between tubes I reckon, left side, right side, and the pivoting tube. Does yours have the reinforcing plate joining all components at the front? It will be thinner, maybe 1.6mm
Got a pic?
The welds on the reinforced swingarm are a mix of manual and automatic. (by hand or machine)

Hi,

thanks for the link!
I do have a swingarm with the reinforcement plate at the front.
I tried to upload a picture, but didn't succeed. Later I'll try again to upload a picture.

To upload photos, you need the photo to be hosted by photobucket or similar.
Copy the link to the photo and post it here, and it will show up.
