Replacement Coil

Post by lskbike »

While replacing the spark plug wires in my 89 R100RT, with only 38K miles, that I am taking out of storage after 3 years, I found the OEM "gray" coil to have major cracks along both sides of its body... Obviously, I don't want to rely on this OEM coil, so I am interested in finding a better upgraded coil to replace it... I would appreciate any recommendations on vendors and products that I should consider for replacing this OEM POS.... Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yours is known as the crack-o-matic!

Look for a second hand replacement from a later model.
They're black and have "Made in Slovenia" on them.

Dual Dyna brown 1.5 ohm coils are also correct replacements. You need a coil that suits electronic ignition, so the 3.0 resistence coils for points aren't the right ones.

Some later HD coils are cheap and work too. Just make sure they're the correct resistence.
