Handelbars.

Hello everyone, I'm almost finished restoring my 83 R100RS. I need to get handlebars for it, NOT the flat bars. I can't do them
any more. I have been told that a bar from a bmw K bike will do very nice. Does anyone know what K bike has the bays I need.
The bike is painted in Graphite gray I found a 3/4 seat for it, It has a BUBB ext.system 40mm.With R100CS heads, rims have been redone in the right silver, upper fork brace and last a deep oil pan for life in the Sunshine State.
I just need the right bars. any Ideas? Bob Distelcamp

Graphite gray with stainless exhaust is the best looking RS IMNSHO.

K75S or possible C bars seem to be the option. A bit more rise and still fits inside the fairing. Some have reported no change needed in cables while others say they have. You'd have to see for yourself.

I have K75S bars on my 77RS. Also used an RT gauge mount bracket which allows you to use the rear mounting holes in the upper fork mount.

I think 65LS and K1 bars also work.

What is it that you dont like about the existing bars - not high enough,- to narrow,to wide not far enough back,to far back,- too straight,- not bent enough,etc, etc.
It might be that straight 25/50mm risers will do the job, or adjustable risers which let you came up and back might suit- they come in sizes between 50 and 120 mm long so give a good range of positions.
I prefer a a almost straight bar which gives my wrists a position which is kind to them and 90mm barbacks let me get them at a comfortable hieght and reach too.

1. Too low,2.Too tight,3. I don't have the leverage needed. I would be very happy with "s" bars, I know that would not work.

Too low and too far forward can be addressed but too narrow and fitting within the fairing is difficult. You may need to remove the fairing or get a different bike (an S or a naked bike).

I made the "s" bars work by using "bar-backs"and by shimming the fork stop with a slightly longer bolt and a washer on each side. You will lose some low speed turning radius but but it is very livable.
